Building Rural Income through inclusive Dairy business Growth in Ethiopia (BRIDGE)
Time frame: Sept 2018 – Dec 2023
In partnership with Yoba for Life: Feb 2020 – Dec 2023
Budget: EUR 20 million
In 2020, the Yoba for Life Foundation became a partner in the Building Rural Income through inclusive Dairy business Growth in Ethiopia (BRIDGE) project. BRIDGE is a five year dairy project in Ethiopia, funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and implemented by SNV and Wageningen University and Research (WUR).
Under BRIDGE project, the Yoba team consisting of five staff members is active both in Addis and in milk sheds across the country. The team trains people who are involved in dairy business on the production of safe and high-quality Yoba yoghurt. The new technology and starter culture helps producers to extend the shelf life of their fermented dairy products from 3 days to 30 days. As consequence, this allows the producers to pack their products and distribute these to the market, and thus expand their business beyond their own outlet. Once a strong producer base will have been built, efforts will be made to introduce the yoghurt as part of the school diet, following the successful pilot conducted under the TIDE I project in Uganda.
